Tantra is an ancient Hindu and Buddhist esoteric science which reveals and emphasis to understand the real self rather than illusions (maya). Tantra has many definitions like in sanskrit it is fabric or tapestry, meaning that it is woven in ones life. Some believes “Tanoti trayti tantrum”, that means to expand and liberate consciousness. Tantra lies on deep understanding of life and existence.
Tantra is the accumulation of practices that unite the forces in macrocosm and microcosm. It teaches to use of prana that flows through the universe, including one body, to attain the purposeful goals of life. Tantra is a quest for spiritual perfection, which purposes the complete control of oneself and all the forces of nature. It includes the methods of yoga, asanas, pranyamas, seals, mudras or gestures, mantras, mandalas and yantras, and other meditation techniques that help in release of energy from chakras, resulting in activation of Kundalini.
Tantra divides the universe in two poles, negative (shakti) and positive (Shiva) or ying yang etc. Shakti is feminine, dynamic, energetic and creative while shiva is masculine, static, and remains identified with unmanifested consciousness. Kundalini is Shakti, it is the potential energy that rest at the base of spinal cord. The aim of tantric and yogic practices is to awaken this energy and make it ascend through chakras to crown of head.
Centuries ago the people had a higher degree of consciousness and awareness known as alchemy for converting the sexual energy known by many names Chi, Apana prana, vital force etc into spiritual force. Kundalini tantra emphasis Tantra is an art of spiritualizing sexuality, transforming the attachment and fears in spiritual forces. Tantra is process to identify our peculiar inner potentialities.
